Luxury brands dipping their toes into the web pool...

Luxury fashion brand Chanel will embark on selling products through their website later this year in order to boost sales.

In the past year fashion houses have seen a decline in profit as a result of the economic downturn, and this has prompted many brands to rethink their marketing strategy. Marc Jacobs is also due to jump into the web pool later this year in the hope of boosting sales.

It will be interesting to see how websites such as Net-a-porter and ASOS will react to this decision as they will ultimately be taking away business.

On a separate note, check out the Marc Jacobs website for a stream of their Collection from New York fashion week, which, it has to be said is amazing. Click here to see it on the website or see below.

It is great to see brands manipulating the media and it begs the question 'do you really need to travel to the fashion weeks to view the shows?' Whilst at Harpers Bazaar, a popular fashion assistant implied that she would prefer to watch them online in the comfort of her own home, with no jet lag and achey feet. Is this the way forward?
