It is like internet dating...

Following some seriously exciting news (yes, the type of wee-your-pants excitement) i have been frantically looking for a place to call home in the big smoke.

Having always stayed at friends or relatives when in London, i was completely oblivious to the awful amount of work involved when trying to find somewhere to live. I have been using gumtree and spareroom however when they ask you to ‘say something about yourself’ what the hell do you write?! I can only compare it to an internet dating site – there is even an option to add your own photograph! I must admit, i have been very tempted to insert a picture of rather large monkey just for a laugh. Not really sure how that would go down with future housemates...

Trying to sound ‘normal’ and not weird or over enthusiastic is actually quite difficult. How do you describe yourself in less than 100 words? Do you mention that occasionally you like to eat a can of tuna on its own, or that you have an irrational fear of baked beans? That you enjoy watching trashy TV like The Only Way Is Essex, The Hills and Half Tonne Man? Or that you can’t stand it when people chew with their mouth open...?

It's here - London Fashion Week!

Journalists, bloggers, buyers and fashion scouts are all out in force for the hectic calendar of shows, events and parties this week.

Goody bag preparation - LFW SS09.

Hair stylists, makeup artists and nail technicians are all working flat out to ensure each show has the right look; designers, assistants and seamstresses are all busily making last minute alterations; press assistants are checking goody bags and seating plans; back stage and front of house are dressing models and preparing the catwalk...

The start of the week kicked off with Paul Costelloe, closely followed by Maria Grachvogel.

Fashion's Night Out - Top of the shops

One of the best events in the fashion calender hits the streets of the West End this week and you can be part of it for free!

Fashion's Night Out is taking place throughout the World's most fashionable cities on 8th September from 6pm to 11pm in key shopping locations. From High Street to Designer, there is something for everyone and it promises to be the best-dressed night out of the year!

Am I reading this correctly?

The British Fashion Awards are fast approaching and the nominees have been selected.

Are my eyes deceiving me, has Victoria Beckham’s label made the shortlist for the Best Designer Brand? Is she up against brands such as Mulberry and Burberry? Surely this must be a human error! Is it just me who thinks this?

Don’t get me wrong I am a huge fan of supporting emerging labels and brands and i do like the label, however i can think of hundreds of other brands who deserve the award more, for example Stella McCartney and Giles Deacon.

The current VB collection has been a hit with certain (z list) celebrities such as J-Lo and the press have certainly jumped on the VB bandwagon. With the Guardian claiming 'she is in the fashion business for the long game.'

Let's be honest here, she probably has a team of designers and doesn't lift a finger. Am i jealous? Well, to put it bluntly she is a millionnaire and i am still living with my parents.

I feel another FML life moment coming on...

FML to the max...

It wouldn’t happen to anyone but me.

Being in full time employment is fabulous for mainly one reason; perfect pay packet at the end of each month.

However, it is not so perfect when you have zero holiday left and Vogue offer you a paid 3 week job. FML.

Esquire 'does' Fashion Week...

To mark the occasion that is Fashion Week (if you don't know this, please stop reading - where have you been?!) Esquire have launched a free magazine highlighting the best dressed, where to shop and who to watch. I don't generally read men's mags but this did entertain me, even if it is all about menswear!

Truly inspirational and one of a kind...

Today has been a very devastating day for the fashion industry; the talented, influential and inspirational fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London flat this morning.

Having won four awards for the British Designer of the year and with a CBE under his belt, Alexander McQueen was one of the most iconic designers of our decade. He pushed boundaries with his designs, never afraid to try something new whether it be his 'bumster' trousers, or his recent most recent 'Armadillo' shoes.

His creativity was key to his collections, epitomised in the video below:



Hugely popular amongst the celebrity world, tributes have been made by Cheryl Cole and Kate Moss. Alexander Shulman, editor of Vogue has commented on his death: 

"His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs. His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't."

Fashion Dilema...

This week has started off on the wrong foot. Can we rewind please?

I hate being so forgetful

Earlier this week was my Vogue interview and the D-Day did not get off to a good start.

Drama 1:
Whilst sorting out what i was going to wear the Sunday before, i realised i had only packed one shoe. This would not seem like a major set back - i am in london, i can go shopping right? Thats all very well if you actually have time before the interview to go shopping...

Drama 2:
I have no time! The monday i was helping out at a photoshoot (see next blog) and was there from 8.30am - 7.30pm and sadly press sample shoes are not my size. So i had to get up at the crack of dawn THE DAY OF MY INTERVIEW and find suitable shoes!

Drama 3:
I have very limited funds to buy new shoes - Primark or New Look are where i pinned my hopes.

The day of the interview it was raining, so i paired the outfit with a pair of black tights and a denim shirt/jacket. I was looking to buy a pair of black heels to match the outfit but, me being me, I did not contemplate the fact that we are now into the Spring/summer season and there would be no plain black heels around.

Drama 5
Seriously Sh**ing myself right now. I could not find any black shoes within budget to match my stupidly summery and ridiculously floaty dress with black tights. By this time it has half 11 and i had one hour to find the shoes and get over to Vogue House.

I did eventually find shoes, but ended up spending over my original budget, and having to buy some accessories to complete the look. These are the shoes:
